Independence Day…..
For me, it is a symbol, first and foremost.A symbol of Freedom, Liberty, Existance as an autonomous Nation, in the same arena as all other Nations. Our country being recognised as a country (in its own right) as opposed to belonging to another country, being a colony. This fate, for us Congolese, was achieved over Half-A-Century ago by our Forefathers. It is for that reason that year on year I take time to reflect upon but also celebrate this memorable day.

Not in Denial
True- given the state of play in many area of Life in the country- many fellow conogolese refuse to celebrate this date and their reasons are (in many cases) legitimate. One such a reason being that the country is not free, independent, or the ongoing fight in the Eastern provinces. My view is quite simple (certainly oversimplified for many):Freedom is a State of Mind!

Les responsables coutumiers et  militaires affirment que tous les fronts dans les zones de combat sont restés stables depuis une semaine. La population se méfie de ce calme qui donnerait le temps aux rebelles du Mouvement du 23 mars 2009 (M23). (more…)
