Highlights from the Lisapo event celebrating Congolese culture in Manchester

Community Arts North West has recently delivered a new and unique Congolese Heritage project called Lisapo – The Congolese Tales (funded by Heritage Lottery Fund).

Lisapo focused on the narrative oral histories and cultural traditions of the Congolese community which has been migrating to Britain since the late 1980’s as a result of the destabilisation of the country and consequent civil war.

The project also includes the Lisapo oral histories archive which is available for the public to access at the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Archive at Manchester Central Library, and the North West Sound Archive.

Extracts from the oral history recordings are available on-line through the Community Arts North West and Lisapo websites at: http://lisapotales.wordpress.com/oral-histories/ and http://can.uk.com/archive/lisapo-oral-histories/

The films of the Lisapo performance provide a fantastic educational tool for sharing the heritage of this new and vibrant community and are available to view on the CAN website  at:

We hope you watch and enjoy the multiple resources that are now available through this project.
